"For us as Asian Americans and immigrants, it must be our collective work and responsibility, rooted in the lessons of 1992, to support and follow the leadership of Black communities during this time, and fight in solidarity against institutional racism. It is also our responsibility to constantly learn about and challenge the anti-Blackness within each of us and in our communities. When we are successful, we will finally win the freedom and liberation all of our communities need."

Among the many local to national victories towards racial justice that have occurred this month was SCOTUS ruling 5-4 to block the Trump administration from abolishing the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program. This is a MAJOR win by and for our undocumented community members and allies in our fight for #Citizenship4All!

NAKASEC joined 9 other immigrant advocacy organizations last autumn in a momentous march from NYC to DC to show that #HomeIsHere in the United States for ALL immigrants, with or without documentation. Watch our core marchers react to the SCOTUS DACA decision here.

As a response to COVID-19, NAKASEC created an emergency fund in March to support our undocumented Asian community members and mixed-status families who live paycheck to paycheck, who cannot work from home, have been laid off, have other immediate financial needs- who have been excluded from federal COVID-19 relief.

Thanks to the generosity of supporters of NAKASEC VA like you, we collectively raised over $75,000 for our Emergency COVID-19 Relief Fund! To date, we've provided direct financial assistance to 125 Asian Americans and their families who were excluded from federal relief, and we’ve shown the power of community and wealth redistribution to take care of each other.

Along with Living Right we must also Live Together: in our commitment to cross-community solidarity, it is time that we extend the love and care to our Black friends and families too. Excitingly, we have also teamed up with the UndocuBlack Network to redistribute our emergency fund donations to undocumented Black folks and mixed-status families who have been excluded from federal relief!

To further strengthen our communities- this time at the polls- NAKASEC VA is seeking a part-time Field Coordinator! They will assist with managing part-time canvassing staff and volunteers; create educational materials; implement voter engagement campaigns to educate voters, promote voter turnout, and build a base to advance policies towards social, economic, and racial justice in Virginia’s Korean and Asian American communities.

This position is based in Annandale, VA and Centreville, VA, and will last until mid-November 2020. Pay is $19/hour for 15 hours/week. Apply by 5pm on June 29, 2020.

NAKASEC VA is also seeking a full-time Korean-speaking Community Organizer! They will help develop and inspire community leadership and activism related to economic, racial, and social justice; build partnerships; and design and implement organizing campaigns.

This position is based in Annandale, VA and Centreville, VA. Salary and benefits is $40K (commensurate with experience), and full health, dental, and vision insurance. Deadline is 11:59pm on July 10, 2020.
