Get basic information about the President's new deferred action program for immigrant families

President Obama kept his promise. He is finally taking critical action to bring much needed relief to 4.9 million undocumented immigrants with strong ties to this country to live and work without the fear of being deported. Our community earned this victory because our immigrant families and community members courageously stepped forward to demand a fix to our broken immigration system by marching and rallying, engaging in acts of civil disobedience, holding vigils, voting, calling their legislators, and sharing their stories.

The President’s executive action will transform the lives of millions of people who came into this country in search of a better life. But this is not enough. We urge Congress to stand on the right side of history and introduce a permanent solution to our broken immigration system. It is due to their failure to act on immigration for so long that President Obama finally stepped up to the plate after months of delay. But executive action is only a temporary solution. Now that the President took the first step, Congress must finish the job by passing comprehensive and lasting immigration reform that includes a pathway to citizenship.
